Foodiepages MARCH 2018 TASTING BOX review!

Hopefully better late than never!
Here is my Foodiepages March 2018 unboxing and review.
I was debating if I should review this box or not as I was not too impressed with the variety of contents and the overall value.
Well and the "free sample" too (the sample I have been given several times at different local natural food stores and grocery shops...).

But then, no one else seemed to post any pictures so I will finally at least do that.

How the box looked upon opening :

Opening Foodiepages March 2018 Box!

When I first opened the Foodiepages March 2018 box the first thing I saw was a ton of crinkled paper and still could not guess what the theme or contents of the box would be.
There is usually not too much of a description online except for this text that I took from their actual Tasting Box page:

About the Tasting Box

Discover the undiscovered! Each month we release a limited number of Tasting Boxes filled with our latest food finds, made by Canada's top food makers. Your Tasting Box will include a collection of 5-6 products of various sizes - spreads, condiments, jams, honeys, syrups, cooking sauces, oils, vinegars, salts, spices, seasonings, baking ingredients and/or snacks.

March 2018 Foodiepages Tasting Box Contents!

Above is what was in my March 2018 box. I tried to arrange the products to make a nice presentation.
The box contained pretty much various shortbread cookies and a hot sauce.
THREE OF THE COOKIES WERE FROM THE SAME COMPANY AND ONE CHOCOLATE CHIP SHORTBREAD FROM ANOTHER COMPANY, A PINEAPPLE MANGO HOT SAUCE.-and the free sample of hemp hearts that has been making the rounds everywhere.
*Now I do enjoy the hemp hearts and actually did place an order for a bag of them from amazon (where they must be coming by turtle as I am still waiting for them......).
The hemp hearts were great in my fruit yogurt or on top of any food or salad and do add a nice taste and a lot of extra nutrition that I need.

For a breakdown of what I did get in my box there was:

3 LARGE SHORTBREAD COOKIES BY EAT MY SHORTBREAD
I will guess the value of the cookies at $3 per cookie, as that is what the similar size packaged shortbreads sell for at local coffee shops.

1 shortbread with chocolate chips from COOKIE IT UP!
Value is most likely $2 at most as it is just one cookie and not a huge one. There was one cookie and the weight was one ounce or 30g.
Just one cookie.
I think a nicer sample would have been 2 cookies, so that I could share one with my aunt, as one cookie is not very big and I did not really want to break a cookie in half to have someone sample it.

PINEAPPLE MANGO SAUCE made by OUT OF THE BOX ALL NATURAL HOT SAUCESThe hot sauce is full size and looks great, the size of the bottle is 5oz or 148ml and has a value of $10.99 plus shipping, as it is not carried in a store near me and so will have to get more by mail.

The value of the box this month has not been that great and I have been somewhat underwhelmed by the variety of items that was sent.
3 cookies from one vendor, 1 cookie from another vendor, a hot sauce.
I really would have liked to see something other than just all cookies and very similar cookies.
I did enjoy the hot sauce and am still using it on many things!

OAT COUTURE , A New Hip Fancy Oatmeal spot on Bank St (Ottawa South). In Ottawa ,Menu and Prices.

Spring is finally here!
I have not been posting as much lately as quite a few things were occupying my time.
But now that there is so much going on around my neighborhood and Bank street,I am going to try and post as much as I can!

Earlier this week I saw that the renovations on the Oat Couture restaurant seemed done and there was people in there last week who seemed to be enjoying their food.
On Facebook I found out it was a "soft open" and was told they would have another soft open March 31 (it was a Saturday).
I happened to be in the area and they had a sign on the sidewalk saying they were giving out samples, but I got there at 2:30 PM and was told they did not have any food for sale or to try as they were closing at 3-but that they would be officially open for business April 2.

I did manage to get a photo of their menu that is on the wall in their store/restaurant and the food does look interesting.
Pretty much all the food they make is based on Canadian-grown oats and and (mostly) local ingredients.

*click the photo see the whole menu.

Oat Couture is located at 1154 Bank St, right at the corner of Glen Avenue.I'm not sure what the hours for this cafe will be, but will report back as soon as I find out.

*If anyone has had the chance to try the menu, what did you order?
I would love to know, as everything looks so interesting and it is hard to decide what to try first!

Update: Their menu and prices are not online yet, so hopefully this will help you decide what to eat this week!!!

Still trying to figure out this photo editing, but did manage to make part of the menu easier to read...
